CLUZ tutorial |
|
|
The CLUZ tutorial is designed to be used by people with a basic knowledge of the ArcView GIS v3 software. ESRI, the company that produces ArcView, have produced a series of free ArcView tutorials, so beginners are recommended to visit the ESRI campus website and complete the relevant tutorials. The CLUZ tutorial consists of:
Exercise 1: An introduction to CLUZThis exercise is designed to introduce the basic concepts behind CLUZ by showing how to open and display the relevant database files and use the CLUZ functions to carry out on-screen conservation planning. This exercise also demonstrates how MARXAN can be used to produce more efficient land-use plans that can then be modified using CLUZ.
Exercise 2: Producing the CLUZ filesThis exercise is designed to go through the steps that are needed to produce the relevant CLUZ data files that were used in the first exercise. This involves converting an ArcView shapefile into the correct format for a planning unit theme and adding relevant data to the abundance and target tables.
Exercise 3: Setting clump values in CLUZThis exercise shows how to incorporate issues of population viability into the conservation planning process by setting targets for conserving clumps of habitat of a minimum specified size. This is done by adding data on a butterfly species to the existing CLUZ tables and modifying the target table to list information on minimum clump size and clump targets.
